What DSI 4, 6 or 8 Flashes Means
Four, six and eight flashes every four seconds are all charted by Viking as a gas solenoid problem, each carrying the same instruction to check the wiring and the gas solenoid. The rows appear together in the VGIC530 gas range service manual (2010, page 11) and in the RVGR3305B service manual (page 8).
Common Causes of DSI 4, 6 or 8 Flashes
- Solenoid coil open or shorted
- Wiring between the module and the solenoid broken or unplugged
- Solenoid mechanically stuck and not responding to the module
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Close the gas shutoff valve serving the range before anything else, then leave the burners off. A solenoid problem is the module reporting a problem with the valve that admits gas, which is not a part to investigate with the supply still connected.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- This problem sits on the part that lets gas into the burner, so the supply goes off before anything is opened up, not after.
- Three different flash counts share one meaning here, and a count recorded wrongly over the phone sends a technician after the wrong section of the chart.
- Solenoid connections are inside the burner enclosure alongside the spark leads, where a wire dressed wrongly on reassembly sits against hot metal.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
