What DSI 1 Flash Means
One flash every four seconds is the Direct Spark Ignition module reporting normal operation, in both its idle and active states. Viking lists it as the healthy pattern in the VGIC530 gas range service manual (2010, page 11), so it is a result rather than a problem.
Common Causes of DSI 1 Flash
- Ignition module healthy and the problem lies outside it
- Burner cap seated crooked, so the flame cannot carry round the ports
- Ports blocked by spill or cleaning residue
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Nothing to repair. Its value is in ruling the ignition module out: with a burner that will not light and a steady single flash on the board, the search moves to the burner cap seating, the port cleanliness and the gas supply rather than to the electronics.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- If there is a gas smell at any point, the shutoff valve comes first and nothing else is worth checking until a technician has been.
- Burner caps look symmetrical but are keyed, and one put back a few degrees out sits proud enough to stop the flame traveling round the crown.
- A single flash rules out the module but not the solenoid it drives, and separating those two needs a reading at the valve rather than a look at the LED.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
