What DSI LED On Means
An LED that stays on solidly rather than flashing is a control problem inside the Direct Spark Ignition module. Viking's instruction is to cycle power and retry, and to replace the module if the steady LED comes back (VGIC530 gas range service manual, 2010, page 11).
Common Causes of DSI LED On
- Internal problem in the ignition module
- A supply disturbance has left the module latched in a problem state
- Damage to the module from moisture or a spill reaching the board
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Turn every burner knob to off and leave them there. Cycling the range at its breaker is the documented first step, but do it with the knobs off so the module is not being asked to light anything while power returns.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A module that problems with knobs open is exactly the situation the power-cycle sequence is meant to be carried out away from, which is why the knobs go off first.
- The module and the gas solenoids it drives are in the same enclosure, so anything opened to inspect one sits next to the other.
- Replacing an ignition module without confirming the supply to it is steady simply installs a new board into the same disturbance.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
