What DSI 7 Flashes Means
Seven flashes every four seconds means the module powered up with a channel already switched on - in other words, supply was restored while a burner control was still calling for ignition. Viking's action is simply to switch that channel off and retry (VGIC530 gas range service manual, 2010, page 11).
Common Causes of DSI 7 Flashes
- Power restored after an outage with a burner knob left in the on position
- Range switched back on at the breaker before the knobs were checked
- A burner switch stuck closed, so the module always sees a demand at power-up
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Turn every burner knob fully to off, then restore power. This one is genuinely a sequencing problem rather than a broken part, and it clears as soon as the module comes up with nothing demanding ignition.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- If the knobs are all off and seven flashes still appears at every power-up, a switch is holding a channel on by itself, and that is a gas-carrying control rather than a nuisance to live with.
- The distinction between a knob left on and a switch stuck on is made at the module's input rather than by looking at the knob.
