What E2 Means
E2 is the condenser fan error, raised on a low current reading - the control is drawing less through that circuit than a running fan would account for. Viking's VUWC244DRSS service manual (2010, page 24) gives three causes: condenser fan motor wires disconnected, a failing condenser fan, and a failing control.
Common Causes of E2
- Condenser fan motor wires disconnected
- Condenser fan motor has failed
- Control board failing
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check that the cabinet has the clearance its installation instructions call for and that the front grille is not blocked, since a fan working against no airflow and a fan that has stopped produce similar signs. Then run the power-on reset Viking prescribes for every E# code on this cabinet - a brief unplug or a breaker cycle - because a surge or a low voltage event can raise the code without the fan having failed.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Without the condenser fan the system cannot reject heat, and a compressor left running against that is how a fan repair becomes a sealed-system repair.
- A low current reading and a disconnected wire look identical to the control, and separating them means measuring at the fan connector rather than listening at the grille.
- The condenser and its fan sit behind the lower grille alongside line-voltage connections, which rules out reaching in to check the blade by hand.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
