What Power Failure Means
An amber "Power Failure" message in the message center means supply to the cabinet was interrupted at some point. Viking's VUWC244DRSS service manual (2010, page 8) records that no audible alarm accompanies it, and notes that it is normal at initial start-up because the cellar was run for quality checks at the factory before shipping.
Common Causes of Power Failure
- Household outage or a tripped breaker on the cellar's circuit
- Plug pulled or a loose supply connection
- First power-up of a cabinet that was tested at the factory
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Press the On/Off keypad to reset it. Then use it for what it is worth: the message tells you the cabinet lost power at some point without telling you for how long, so it is a prompt to check the current temperature of the bottles rather than a repair request.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- If the message reappears with no outage anyone noticed, something in the supply is making and breaking, and tracing that inside house wiring is a licensed electrician's job.
- Viking recommends a dedicated single receptacle for the cabinet and warns against extension cords, so a cellar sharing a socket with other equipment has a plausible explanation built in.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
