What Comm Means
A Comm problem indicates the communication link between the EOC4 oven control board and the VDSC display/user-interface board has gone loose or dropped out entirely; this is confirmed directly in Viking's own service manual for this control platform.
Common Causes of Comm
- Wiring harness between the EOC4 board and display/UI board is loose or damaged
- Connector at either end has failed
- A firmware glitch or power interruption
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Cut power to the range at the breaker for a couple of minutes first, to rule out a one-off communication drop before assuming there's an actual hardware problem.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Since the problem could be sitting at either end of the harness, guessing and replacing the wrong board is a common and expensive mistake.
- The cable run connecting the two boards frequently routes close to line-voltage supply connections.
- If a connector goes back in even a little off, the problem can seem to clear temporarily, only to resurface once the range sees normal use again.
- Properly tracking this down usually means running continuity tests along the entire harness with the range completely de-energized.
- That panel screws into captive nuts behind the sheet metal, and once one of them spins loose there is no way to reach it again without stripping the back of the range.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
