What Inlet Valve Error Means
An Inlet Valve Error means the water inlet valve's current-sense reading has landed outside the expected range; this is confirmed directly in Viking's own dishwasher service manual.
Common Causes of Inlet Valve Error
- Water inlet valve solenoid has failed
- Wiring problem between the inlet valve and control board
- Valve is stuck partially open or closed due to mineral buildup
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Make sure the water supply valve behind the dishwasher is fully open — a valve that's closed or only partway open can sometimes produce a reading that mimics a valve problem.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The inlet valve sits right in the pressurized water supply line, so disconnecting it without shutting off the supply first can flood the cabinet underneath.
- A valve reinstalled with even a slightly loose fitting is a frequent source of a slow leak that doesn't show up for weeks.
- This can be confused with a flow-sensing problem elsewhere in the fill circuit, and replacing the wrong part is a common, costly mistake.
- The valve is only reachable with the machine drawn out of its cutout, and the drain hose loops behind it, so it kinks out of sight as the dishwasher comes forward.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
