What Motor Status Error Means
Three flashes then four means the motor control has reported an operation failure that it attributes to the motor rather than to itself. Viking's FDB451 dishwasher service manual (2012, page 12) lists verifying the connection between motor control and motor first, then the motor control, then the machine control.
Common Causes of Motor Status Error
- Wash motor winding or bearing failing
- Connection between the motor control and the motor loose
- Motor control misreporting a sound motor
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Nothing to reach without pulling the machine. It is worth noting whether the wash motor has been getting noisier over recent months, since bearing wear builds gradually and an increasingly loud wash phase often precedes this code by some time.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Viking writes this row and the Motor Control Status row to point at different parts, so reading the flash count wrongly swaps a motor for a controller or the other way about.
- The three-phase motor reads roughly 15 ohms between each pair of leads, and those readings are taken at the motor controller board with the machine dead.
- The wash motor sits under the tub where supply, drain and power all converge, so reaching it means the machine forward and every connection at risk of being disturbed at once.
