What E:08 Means
E:08 is raised when communication between the main electronic board and the external electronic board is lost during a normal working cycle. Viking's FDWU324 service manual (December 2018, page 34) lists cable harness errors and failing socket installation ahead of the boards themselves.
Common Causes of E:08
- Cable harness between the boards damaged
- A socket not seated properly at one end
- Main electronic board failing
- Display electronic board failing
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the dishwasher off at its breaker for a couple of minutes and restore it. Communication codes sometimes do not come back after a clean restart, and Viking's own cause list puts connectors before boards, which makes a restart a reasonable first move.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Viking names failing socket installation as a cause in its own right, which means a connector that was disturbed during previous work can produce this problem months later.
- Either board can be the one to blame, so replacing the more accessible one first is a guess rather than a diagnosis.
- The boards sit in the door behind a seal built to keep steam out of them, and a seal refitted badly delivers exactly what it was there to exclude.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
