What 4 Flashes Means
Four flashes every five seconds means both the bin sensor and the evaporator sensor are reading open or shorted. Viking lists it as a distinct row in the VUIM/DUIM150 service manual (2009, page 30), and two sensors failing at once points much more strongly at what they have in common than at either part.
Common Causes of 4 Flashes
- Wiring harness damaged where both thermistor leads leave the cabinet
- Connector block at the electronic control unplugged
- Electronic control failing to read either input
- Both thermistors genuinely failed
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
There is nothing to test, but the inference is worth passing on: two sensors failing together usually means a shared cause - the harness route out of the back of the cabinet, or the connector block at the control - rather than two coincidental failures.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Replacing two thermistors when the common connector is the problem means two parts bought and the same four flashes afterwards.
- Both leads are fed out through the same opening at the back of the unit, where a machine pushed back into its cabinet can trap them against the cabinet edge.
- Reaching either sensor means the water line and drain disconnected and the interior stripped back to the reservoir.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
