What LED On 10 Seconds Means
The diagnostic LED coming on for ten seconds and then going out means the selector switch has just been moved into the clean position. Viking's VUIM/DUIM150 service manual (2009, page 30) notes the indication resets after those ten seconds or when clean mode is left, so it is an acknowledgement rather than a problem.
Common Causes of LED On 10 Seconds
- Selector switch moved to the clean position deliberately
- Selector left in clean after a cleaning cycle and never returned
- Selector switch damaged and reporting the clean position
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
If the machine has stopped making ice and this is what the LED does, check the selector switch position behind the grille - a machine left in clean mode after a service or a descale will sit there indefinitely without producing anything.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The selector wires run to a rocker switch behind the grille that has to be disconnected to remove the grille, and a wire put back on the wrong spade changes which mode the machine wakes in.
- A machine sitting in clean mode is not making ice and not reporting a problem, so nothing will tell you it is there except this ten-second flash and the empty bin.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
