What Current Sense Error Means

Five flashes then four means the main control is reading current draw at a moment when no load should be active at all. Viking's FDB451 dishwasher service manual (2012, page 13) gives only two causes: a defective main control and a defective wire harness.

Common Causes of Current Sense Error

  • Main control board reading current that is not there
  • Wire harness shorting so a load is energised outside its step

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

There is nothing to try from outside. What makes this code distinctive is that it is the control noticing something is drawing power when the program says nothing should be, which is a reason to have it looked at rather than run again.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • A part energised when the control did not ask for it is the kind of problem that does not stay quiet, and running cycles meanwhile leaves it running too.
  • With only two candidates on Viking's list, the diagnosis is a harness inspection rather than a parts swap, and that inspection needs the machine out and dead.
  • A shorted harness inside a wet appliance can trip the household breaker as its next move, which is a poor way to learn the answer.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

Current Sense Error FAQ

That is one of the two possibilities Viking lists. The other is the control misreading. Either way it is a problem to have looked at rather than cycled through.

We would leave it until it has been checked. A load energising outside its step is not something to keep repeating while you wait.
