What Pump Flow Error Means
Three flashes of the Pots & Pans Wash light then two of the Normal Wash light means the control has judged the water flow through the wash system insufficient or inconsistent, and has refused to let the flow-through heater switch on. Viking's FDB451 dishwasher service manual (2012, page 12) attaches eleven checks to this row - more than to any other code on the platform.
Common Causes of Pump Flow Error
- Filters clogged enough to starve the wash pump
- Fill level short because of supply pressure, a kinked line or an unlevel machine
- Wash motor no longer moving water at the expected rate
- Inlet valve underfilling
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Take Viking's list from the top: water fully on, fill line free of kinks, machine level in both directions, filters clean, house pressure unchanged, and the drain carrying its high loop. It also documents an extended fill service mode entered by holding Normal Wash for ten seconds, which is worth mentioning to whoever attends.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The flow-through heater is locked out on purpose while flow is doubtful, because a heater running in insufficient water is the failure this code is written to prevent.
- Eleven listed causes means the order matters, and skipping to the wash motor without doing the installation checks first is how people buy the wrong part.
- Entering the extended fill service mode changes how the machine fills from then on, which is a setting to leave with somebody who can put it back.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
