What Diagnostic LED Off Means
A VCC3 diagnostic LED that stays completely dark while the compressor is stopped points at the inverter having no supply or being damaged outright, rather than at a problem it has detected and is reporting. Viking's SMR-0008A service manual (2010, page 41) has the technician verify the power connections and run the disconnect-and-wait sequence before condemning the inverter.
Common Causes of Diagnostic LED Off
- The unit has no supply, or the disconnect switch behind the grille is off
- Supply connection at the inverter has worked loose
- Inverter has failed in a way that leaves it completely dead
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Before assuming the worst, make sure the power disconnect switch behind the air grille in the top right corner has not been left off. Viking fits it so the unit can be isolated without dragging it out of the cabinetry, and it is easy to catch by accident.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A dark LED and a dead inverter look identical from outside the cabinet, and telling them apart means measuring supply at the inverter while the circuit is live.
- Viking flags the opposite case as well - a dark LED with the compressor actually running means the diagnostic function itself is misbehaving, which changes the whole diagnosis.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
