What 2 Flashes Means
Two flashes every five seconds with the compressor stopped means the VCC3 inverter has power and is working, but is receiving no run signal from the refrigerator's control board. Viking sets this out in service manual SMR-0008A (2010, page 40) for the built-in side-by-side platform.
Common Causes of 2 Flashes
- Control board has stopped issuing the compressor run command
- Signal wiring between the control board and the inverter is broken or unplugged
- Thermistor readings are leaving the control convinced no cooling is called for
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
This is a reading taken inside the machine compartment, so there is no step to take yourself. What does help is noting whether the cabinet warmed gradually over days or stopped cooling all at once, because a run signal that disappears tends to produce the abrupt version.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Two flashes point at the control board rather than the inverter, and replacing the inverter on this evidence is exactly the costly wrong turn the code exists to head off.
- The inverter holds stored charge after the supply is cut, so the compartment is not safe to work in the moment the breaker goes off.
- That signal harness shares the compartment with the compressor discharge line, which stays hot enough to burn long after the compressor has stopped.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
