What F07 Means
F07 means the oven door is detected open during a CLEAN cycle, whether from a failed latch, a failed door sensor, or because the door was opened right after selecting CLEAN before the latch had a chance to engage; this is confirmed directly in Viking's own built-in oven service manual.
Common Causes of F07
- Door was opened immediately after selecting CLEAN, before the latch engaged
- Door latch mechanism has failed
- Door interlock switch or sensor has failed
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
If the self-clean run halted and the oven is cooling down, wait until it's fully cooled before touching the door, and hold off on restarting self-clean until the cause has been confirmed.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- This is a legitimate safety interlock guarding against an open door during a cleaning cycle that can exceed 800°F — working around it is a genuine burn hazard.
- Both the latch and the interlock switch share the same high-voltage circuit as the heating elements, so testing them while powered is a shock hazard.
- Forcing a stuck latch can warp the strike plate, leaving the door harder to lock and unlock correctly from then on.
- Repeatedly retrying self-clean without figuring out the actual cause risks a cycle cutting off mid-run while the cavity is still scorching hot.
- Reaching the latch or switch means the door comes off its hinges first, and those hinges are spring-loaded hard enough to snap shut on a hand still holding them.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
