What Model Means
Two flashes of the cycle light followed by a four-second pause, with the clean light steady on, is the model-header problem on Viking's cycle-and-clean-light platform: the control has no valid model configuration loaded. The RDSCD230-5B service manual (page 22) adds that this one appears only at power-up, and that the action is to install the correct header and power the oven up again.
Common Causes of Model
- Control board replaced without the matching model header fitted
- Model header unseated from its socket
- Control memory has lost the stored configuration
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
There is no homeowner adjustment here. It is worth mentioning if the oven has had a control board replaced recently, because a board fitted without its model header gives exactly this pattern from the first power-up onwards.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A header fitted for the wrong model leaves the oven applying another model's heating profile, which is a worse outcome than the problem it was meant to cure.
- Because the check runs only at power-up, an oven that seems to behave after a reset can still be carrying the wrong configuration until the next time it is switched on.
- The header plugs onto the board behind the control panel, in the same housing as the line-voltage relay contacts.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
