What Door Means
Door on a VDSC-series range display means the oven door is being detected open while a CLEAN cycle is meant to be running. Viking's VDSC548T Series service manual (2011, page 39) gives three routes to it: a failed latch, a failed door sensor, or the door being opened straight after CLEAN was selected and before the latch had time to engage.
Common Causes of Door
- Door opened in the moments after CLEAN was selected, before the latch travelled
- Latch mechanism no longer reaching the locked position
- Door sensor failed and reporting open with the door shut
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
If the cycle has stopped and the cavity is still hot, leave the door shut and let it cool on its own. When it is cold, close the door firmly and start a clean cycle without touching it for the first minute - that alone tells you whether the timing or the hardware is to blame.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A clean cycle runs the cavity far hotter than any cooking setting, so the interlock this code belongs to is the thing keeping the door shut - not an obstacle to be worked around.
- The latch and the door sensor share the circuit that also feeds the heating elements, which rules out probing them with the range energised.
- Starting clean cycles repeatedly to see whether it takes risks the run cutting out with the cavity already at cleaning temperature.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
