What F30 / F31 Means
F30 and F31 flag an oven temperature sensor reading out of range on an older Viking built-in oven control platform — a different generation than the EOC4 platform behind F02; this is corroborated by two independent appliance-repair reference sources, though not directly confirmed against a Viking factory service manual for this generation.
Common Causes of F30 / F31
- Temperature sensor has failed or drifted out of calibration
- Sensor wiring is damaged or disconnected
- Connector at the sensor or control board has corroded
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
There's no homeowner-safe way to test this — reading sensor resistance takes a multimeter on a fully de-energized oven, which is technician work.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Checking sensor resistance safely means a fully de-energized oven and a multimeter — skip either step and you risk a shock.
- This can be mistaken for a heating-element problem, leading to replacing the wrong, pricier part.
- The sensor passes through a grommet into the cavity, and pulled out of its routing the lead rubs against the hot cavity wall until the insulation wears away.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
