What F06 Means
F06 shows up when the control board's model header is undefined — in other words, the board has no valid model configuration loaded; this is confirmed directly in Viking's own built-in oven service manual.
Common Causes of F06
- Control board was replaced without programming the model header
- A firmware or memory problem followed a power interruption
- Control board memory is failing
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
There's no homeowner fix here — correcting a missing or wrong model header takes a technician running the proper service diagnostics on the control board.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Get the model header programmed wrong and the oven can end up applying the wrong heating profile entirely, which is a worse problem than the original problem.
- Configuring the control board calls for equipment most homeowners simply don't have on hand.
- The rear panel also carries the strain relief on the supply cord, and a cord left unclamped when it goes back pulls against its terminal screws every time the oven moves.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
