What E4 Means
E4 is the same defrost-system problem as E2 in most respects — the evaporator sensor didn't detect the coils reaching 45°F within the 25-30 minute defrost window.
Common Causes of E4
- Defrost heater or thermostat has failed
- Adaptive defrost board isn't completing the cycle
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Same as E2 — you can visually confirm heavy frost buildup, but testing the heater or thermostat needs a technician.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Testing these parts safely requires the unit to be fully de-energized first.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
