What F2 Means
F2 points to the fan speed sensor reporting an inconsistent reading — the fan sounds slower or faster than the speed you selected, or cuts in and out.
Common Causes of F2
- Speed sensor has drifted out of calibration or failed
- Debris in the fan housing is intermittently catching the blades
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
There's no safe at-home test for this sensor; a technician reads the actual sensor feedback against the motor's real speed.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A sensor put back even slightly misaligned during a DIY attempt keeps giving inaccurate readings.
- Continuing to run an intermittently-cutting fan without diagnosis risks overworking the motor.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
