What F3 Means
F3 is a motor thermal-overload problem — the hood was running normally, then the fan stopped and the motor housing feels warm, meaning the motor's own protection shut it down before it could overheat further.
Common Causes of F3
- Motor bearing has started to seize, forcing the motor to work harder
- Duct restriction is forcing the fan to work against too much resistance
- Motor winding has degraded and is drawing excess current
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Let the unit fully cool and check that nothing is blocking the fan or duct before assuming the motor itself has failed.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Restarting a thermally-shutdown motor repeatedly without finding the cause risks burning it out completely.
- Diagnosing a duct restriction properly often means partial duct access, which is more efficient for a technician with the right tools.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
