What Heavy Flashing Means
On Viking's older DFUD-series undercounter dishwashers (the platform behind models like the DFUD141/DFUD142), a flashing "Heavy" pot icon means the control has detected too much water sitting in the tub and is calling for service — documented directly in this platform's own owner's manual.
Common Causes of Heavy Flashing
- Water-level sensor or pressure switch is reading incorrectly
- Inlet valve is stuck partially open, letting the tub keep filling past the normal level
- Anti-flood float switch has tripped from standing water already in the base pan
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Confirm the door is closing and latching fully, since a door that isn't sealing can sometimes throw off fill-level sensing — beyond that, this isn't a homeowner fix.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Running another cycle to "see what happens" with a suspected overfill risks water reaching the base pan's electrical connections.
- Telling a stuck inlet valve apart from a bad level sensor takes technician-level testing rather than a guess.
- Getting to the fill or float parts means drawing the machine out on lines cut to length, and it has to be re-leveled afterwards or the float reads wrong all over again.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
