What E2 Means
E2 means the control board has flagged a condenser fan motor problem, based on current draw outside the expected range; this is confirmed directly in Viking's own refrigeration service manual.
Common Causes of E2
- Condenser fan motor wiring is disconnected or damaged
- Condenser fan motor has failed
- Control board problem is misreading the fan's current draw
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Take a look at the condenser fan area (usually at the base or rear of the unit) for visible dust buildup or stored items blocking it — don't reach into the fan housing itself.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The condenser fan motor circuit carries line voltage, so reaching into the housing without fully de-energizing the unit first is a shock risk.
- A fan blade jammed by debris looks the same from outside as a failed motor, and replacing the motor when it's really just a blockage wastes the part.
- Getting to the condenser typically means moving the unit, and mishandling nearby refrigerant lines risks a costly leak.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
