What NO-GAS Means
This means turning a burner knob to the ignite position produces no hiss of gas at all, before the igniter even comes into play. Viking's outdoor grill troubleshooting table does not give this its own row, but two of its entries cover it directly — verify gas is on and available, and verify gas is flowing from the valve (T-Series service manual, 2009, page 30; VGBQ/VGIQ E-Series service manual, 2011, page 36).
Common Causes of NO-GAS
- Propane tank is empty or the valve wasn't fully opened
- Regulator has tripped into bypass/safety mode
- A gas line connection has failed
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check the tank level and that the regulator valve is fully open, but don't disconnect gas fittings yourself to check further.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A regulator in safety bypass mode needs a specific reset sequence — forcing it without knowing that sequence can leave the system in an inconsistent state.
- Checking gas line connections for a leak safely requires proper leak-detection method, not a lighter or open flame.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
