What User Interface Communication Error Means
Three flashes of the Pots & Pans Wash light then one of the Normal Wash light means the user interface cannot successfully communicate with the main control. Viking's FDB451 dishwasher service manual (2012, page 12) lists the wiring first, then the cable, then each of the two boards.
Common Causes of User Interface Communication Error
- Wiring between the main control and the user interface unplugged
- Cable between the two boards damaged
- Main control board has failed
- User interface board has failed
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the machine off at its breaker for a couple of minutes. A communication drop between two boards does not always survive a clean restart, and establishing that costs nothing.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Because either board can be the failing one, guessing which to replace is the commonest and most expensive misstep on this code.
- The cable runs through the door hinge area, where years of opening and closing work a marginal conductor apart.
- Both boards sit inside the door behind a steam seal, and a seal that goes back imperfectly delivers moisture onto the electronics being replaced.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
