What 10 Means
Error 10 means a wrong terminal has been connected. Viking's VISC530 service manual (2009, page 17) attaches a specific measurement to it: the secondary voltage of the power supply reading above 400 volts, with the action being to check the supply power.
Common Causes of 10
- Supply conductors landed on the wrong terminals at installation
- Cooktop connected to a supply configuration it was not built for
- A connection changed during other electrical work in the house
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Stop using the cooktop and leave it isolated at the breaker. This code describes a wiring connection that is not what the appliance expects, and it is the one induction code where continuing to use the zones is the wrong response.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A supply measuring above 400 volts where the design expects far less is a condition to isolate from, not to investigate with the appliance energised.
- Terminal identification differs between single-phase and split-phase installations, and a connection that looks tidy can still be wrong.
- Boards downstream of a mis-wired supply can fail while the wiring itself stays undiscovered, which turns one problem into several.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
