What HIGH TEMP Means
The HIGH TEMP indicator lit with the FREEZER indicator flashing and a repeating beep pattern means the freezer compartment has held at or above 15 degrees Fahrenheit for the three-hour period stored in the control EEPROM. Viking gives both figures in the FDBB5361 service manual (page 40), where the beep runs half a second on and two seconds off.
Common Causes of HIGH TEMP
- Door held open or not sealing, letting warm air in continuously
- Defrost cycle not completing, so ice has choked airflow across the evaporator
- Evaporator fan stopped
- Compressor or condenser side no longer keeping up
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Press ALARM OFF once to stop the tone, then deal with the contents before the cabinet. Viking's design keeps the HIGH TEMP legend and the flashing FREEZER indicator on screen until the compartment is back below the limit, so a second press only clears them once the temperature has genuinely recovered.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Three hours at 15 degrees or above is enough to start softening the contents, so what is in the cabinet needs judging before anybody starts diagnosing the cabinet itself.
- The alarm clears its sound but not its cause, and a freezer left with a silenced alarm and a stalled fan keeps climbing with nothing left to announce it.
- Reaching the evaporator or the defrost parts means stripping interior panels whose plastic is brittle at freezer temperature and cracks at its fixings as it comes away.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
