What POWER Means
The POWER indicator flashing on and off with the temperature digits flashing beside it is the power-loss alarm: supply to the control was interrupted and has since come back. Viking's VCRB5301 service manual (2012, page 34) records that no tone goes with it and that only ACTIVATE CONTROLS and ALARM OFF respond while it is on screen.
Common Causes of POWER
- A household outage, or a breaker tripped on the refrigerator circuit
- The power disconnect switch behind the upper grille switched off and on again
- A loose supply connection making and breaking on its own
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
This one genuinely is yours to clear. Press and release ALARM OFF; the POWER legend goes out and the digits return to showing temperature. Then judge the contents, because the alarm records that the cabinet lost supply without recording for how long.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- If POWER keeps returning with no outage anyone noticed, something in the circuit is making and breaking intermittently, and tracing that inside house wiring belongs to a licensed electrician.
- Repeated brief interruptions restart the compressor against a system that has not equalised, which is harder on it than one long outage would be.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
